What to do with Chris Herndon in Week 1 fantasy football

Expectations are high for the Jets’ tight end this season, but we may have to wait a week for his breakout to really begin.

After making a splash as a rookie in 2018, expectations were high for the New York Jets tight end. Unfortunately, he got a late start to his season because of a suspension, and his return was short lived after a fractured rib ended his season. He starts this season healthy and one of just a few reliable pass catchers for Sam Darnold, but he’s got a tough matchup this week against the Buffalo Bills.

There is ample reason to be excited about Herndon’s potential this season. The Jets receiver corps is dealing with injuries, and that was already a thin group behind Jamison Crowder. By default, we can expect Darnold to be looking for Herndon on plenty of throws this season. Add that to the fact that the Jets are likely to be playing from behind in many of their games this season, which would mean lots of passing to play catch-up.

This probably is not the week to jump on the Herndon hype train. The Bills have one of the NFL’s better defenses, and it was the league’s second-best unit when it came to shutting down tight ends for fantasy points last season.
