Running back non-PPR rankings for Week 2 fantasy football

We take you through some of the best non-PPR running backs going in Week 2 for fantasy football, including a few viable streamers.

UPDATE 9/19: NFL teams released their final injury reports for Week 2. Here are final statuses for names of note.

Miles Sanders: Removed from final injury report and is good to go
James Conner: Removed from final injury report and is good to go
Phillip Lindsay: Out

UPDATE 9/18: We have a few running back injuries that will move this week’s rankings around. Let’s take a look at the most important for fantasy.

Miles Sanders has practiced in full this week and all but assured to play. He could lose some work to Boston Scott and Corey Clement, but I expect after a full week of practice he will get the majority of the looks. I’ve moved him up.

James Conner practiced in full on Thursday, so it looks good for him to play against the Broncos. I don’t have a lot of trust in him, but he should get the start and a chance to prove himself. Benny Snell gets moved down and will be tough to start this week unless we hear otherwise.

Phillip Lindsay has turf toe and hasn’t practiced this week. He is almost certainly out against the Steelers. That will give Royce Freeman a step up and likely more work for Melvin Gordon. Unfortunately for them, the Steelers run defense is a beast.

Le’Veon Bell is on IR and Frank Gore will get the start against his old 49ers team. IT’s not the best matchup and we could see the ball spread out between Kalen Ballage, Josh Adams and possibly Lamical Perine if he is healthy enough. Gore is a flex play in deeper leagues, but his upside is low on a bad Jets team.

Some of the usual suspects finished Top-3 in PPR scoring last week, as Josh Jacobs, Christian McCaffrey and Ezekiel Elliott all got theirs. Malcolm Brown came in fourth for Non-PPR with his two touchdown game. And even Peyton Barber got into RB1 territory with just 27 yards rushing on 17 carries! Of course, he also found the end zone twice. In PPR leagues he finished 16th.

Derrick Henry got his 100 yards in Week 1 but it took 31 carries. But this week he gets the Jaguars, who he has put up big numbers on in the past. McCaffrey, Saquon Barkley and Jacobs all have tough matchups this week, so I’m all in on Henry rebounding against a weak Jaguars run defense.

Speaking of Barkley, he does face the Bears, but Adrian Peterson did well against them last week and they aren’t the Steelers, who shut Barkley down in Week 1. Barkley’s tough start to the season shouldn’t be too concerning, as he was a usage hog and he’s still very good at football.

It will be a real shame if the Chargers don’t get Austin Ekeler more involved in the receiving game this week, as he has a great matchup with the Chiefs. He totaled 17 receptions in their two matchups last season and should set up for similar numbers this week if Tyrod Taylor will throw it to him. Last week he had just one target.

Adrian Peterson, Lions

D’Andre Swift will continue to see plenty of snaps for the Lions, but Peterson showed he is ahead of Kerryon Johnson last week by putting up decent numbers against a strong Bears defense. The Packers should be a better matchup and Peterson has good touchdown upside.

Benny Snell Jr., Steelers

Denver doesn’t look like they’ll be the best matchup for running backs this season, but if James Conner remains out, Snell will receive the bulk of the touches. He was able to put up good numbers on a decent Giants defensive line on Monday night and as long as the Steelers passing game is working, he has a shot to do the same at home against Denver.
