The Denver Nuggets have a penchant for falling behind only to force a Game 7 in a series. They’ve done it twice so far in the 2019-20 NBA playoffs, trailing the Utah Jazz and the Los Angeles Clippers 3-1 before winning three straight to take the series. This is likely just a coincidence as we’ve seen big momentum swings in the NBA bubble with no home crowds. Still, it’s a bit odd that the Nuggets have become this comfortable in elimination games. DraftKings Sportsbook is offering an odds boost for the trend, let’s take a look.
Nuggets to go down 3-1 vs. Lakers and come back to win (+9000)
When I look at this odds boost, I go to myself “no way.” Two times, sure. But three times in a row you go down 3-1 and win a series? It’s something we’ve probably never seen in sports. That’s six straight elimination game wins for Denver. For them to win nine in a row. Three of which would come against LeBron James and Anthony Davis. I just don’t see it happening.
There is one thing appealing about this boost. If we look at the Lakers, they’ve dropped Game 1 of the series twice in a row so far these playoffs. So both of the Lakers’ series have at least gotten to L.A. being up 3-1. There’s a decent chance it happens again, though I would expect LeBron and Anthony Davis to close out the series before a Game 7. Now that I think about it, this isn’t a bad number to just throw some cash on. The Nuggets going down 3-1 seems likely to happen in the series, so you’d just need Jamal Murray and Nikola Jokic hero ball for three more games. Crazier things have happened. The Warriors blew a 3-1 lead in the finals!
