Yet another college football game scheduled for this weekend won’t happen, as the Florida Atlantic Owls will not face the Georgia Southern Eagles because of a Covid-19 outbreak amongst the team from Boca Raton, Florida.
Source: FAU won’t play Georgia Southern in football this weekend. FAU had an outbreak early in the week and received more positive tests this am. FAU had an entire position group that wasn’t available. The game was scheduled for ESPN on Saturday.

The Owls were a seven-point favorite on the road.
Both teams don’t share an open date until after Thanksgiving, and both would be hoping to play in the conference championship games of Conference USA and the Sun Belt on those dates, so it’s likely this game gets canceled despite this release from Florida Atlantic.
BOCA RATON, Fla. – Saturday’s football game between Florida Atlantic University and Georgia Southern has been postponed. Following results of Thursday’s COVID-19 testing, it was determined the Owls would be unable to play Saturday. The two schools are working to find a date to play later this season.
FAU is scheduled to face the South Florida next weekend on September 26th in Boca, a reunion for new Owls head coach Willie Taggart. He was the Bulls head coach from 2013-16, and Taggart’s defensive coordinator Jim Leavitt was the first USF head coach in history, leading the team from its inception in 1997 until being fired for striking a player at halftime of a game after the 2009 season.
