How and what to watch for Miami vs. Louisville

It should be a fun matchup on Saturday night in the first game of the season between ranked teams.

NCAA Football: Independence Bowl-Louisiana Tech vs Miami Justin Ford-USA TODAY Sports

The Miami Hurricanes and Louisville Cardinals will square off in the first matchup among ranked teams in the 2020 college football season on Saturday, Sept. 19. Miami comes in ranked as the No. 17 team in the country with Louisville right behind at No. 18 according to the latest AP Top 25 poll.

Both teams enter with a 1-0 record with a pair of wins against lesser competition. Houston transfer D’Eriq King made his Hurricanes’ debut in a 31-14 win over UAB. He completed 16 of 24 passes for 144 yards and a touchdown and did most of his damage on the ground. He finished with 12 carries for 83 yards and a rushing touchdown. Cam’Ron Harris gained 134 rushing yards on 17 carries with a pair of touchdowns, so Louisville will need to find a way to limit the running game.

For the Cardinals, they are coming off a 35-21 home win over Western Kentucky. Micale Cunningham had a fantastic day through the air with 343 yards passing and three touchdown passes with one interception. Receivers Dez Fitzpatrick and Braden Smith each had four catches for 110 yards. Fitzpatrick also added a touchdown reception. It’s the passing game that could give Miami trouble on Saturday night.

Miami won the previous matchup 52-27 at home in 2019.

The Best Bet

Louisville is a program very much on the rise thanks to second-year head coach Scott Satterfield. The Cardinals finished 2-10 in the final season under Bobby Petrino before Satterfield came in from Appalachian State and made Louisville an eight-win team in his first season. Despite the addition of King, Miami can still be a difficult team to predict. Let’s go with the home favorites to win by a field goal or more.

Pick: Louisville -2.5
