How and what to watch for UCF vs. Georgia Tech

Georgia Tech is coming off a surprising win over Florida State, while UCF is ready to get its season started.

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets were among several surprises during Saturday’s games with a road win over the Florida State Seminoles. They’ll be looking for another upset victory when they host the UCF Knights on Sept. 19.

Georgia Tech went in as double-digit underdogs against Florida State before securing a 16-13 victory. Freshman quarterback Jeff Sims did it all for the Yellow Jackets with 277 yards passing, and he led the team with 64 yards rushing. He also threw a touchdown pass and two interceptions. Georgia Tech played well defensively, allowing only three points in the final three quarters.

UCF was scheduled to play FIU on Friday night, but the game was postponed. The Knights have a bit of a disadvantage heading into this one without any game experience in 2020. UCF did not win the AAC last season after winning it the previous two years, and the Knights are looking to get back behind quarterback Dillon Gabriel. He threw for 3,653 passing yards with 29 touchdowns and seven interceptions, though he completed only 59.4% of his passes.

These two teams last played in 2000, a 21-17 victory for the Yellow Jackets in Atlanta. Two years later UCF would join the Mid-American Conference where they would go 10-25 overall, including an 0-11 season in 2004.

Game Time/TV Channel/Streaming

Saturday’s game will start at 3:30 p.m. ET at Bobby Dodd Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. The game will be aired on the ABC.

The Best Bet

Georgia Tech is in its second season transitioning out of the triple-option offense, which includes a very limited offseason. That’s going to take time to adjust with new recruits coming in, and the offense wasn’t all that impressive in the win. The defense largely helped the Yellow Jackets to a win, which is why we’re going in on the under on Saturday.
