Game day update: There is the potential we see a more even split that includes Darrell Henderson, according to Mike Garafolo. Brown remains the best of the three, followed by Akers, while Henderson is not someone to start this week.

Malcolm Brown has spent the last five years of his career solidly planted behind Todd Gurley on the Rams depth chart. With Gurley now across the country in Atlanta, Brown was able to capitalize on a Week 1 start in which he had the game of his lifetime. Along with Brown, in his rookie debut, Cam Akers received a decent share of the workload as well. This is currently a two way timeshare since Darrell Henderson remains out with a hamstring injury. Each of these backs looks to build on their Week 1 performance as they take on the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 2. How might they fit best into your lineups given the current carry split? We break down the fantasy implications below.

Fantasy Football analysis: Rams RBs Malcolm Brown, Cam Akers

Malcolm Brown started off the season with a bang, as he received 18 carries for 79 yards and two touchdowns. He also added three receptions for 31 yards to finish the game with a whopping 26.0 fantasy points in ESPN PPR leagues. This appears to be Brown’s backfield for the time being, and it is promising that he was used in both the rushing and the passing game. Akers is likely to see increased work from week to week and this may eventually become a 50/50 timeshare, however Brown has the upper hand leading into Week 2. He faces a tough rushing defense in the Philadelphia Eagles, but he can still be a serviceable running back for your lineup.

Cam Akers saw 14 carries for 39 yards and added 1 reception for 4 yards in Week 1 for a total of 5.3 fantasy points in ESPN PPR leagues. While the point total was underwhelming, the high usage is promising for this talented rookie. Only time will tell how the carries are divvied up on a week to week basis, but this was a good start and may indicate good opportunity for Akers to have success this season. He is best seen as a flex/RB3 play for now, but keep an eye on his value to increase as he carves out a role for himself in the Rams offense.
