What to do with Melvin Gordon in Week 2 fantasy football

Gordon will play a feature role in Denver’s backfield this week, but is he worth a spot in fantasy lineups against the Steelers?

Entering the season, the Denver Broncos had a pretty good time-share situation at running back with incumbent Phillip Lindsay and the newly acquired Melvin Gordon. But Lindsay suffered a toe that forced him out of last week’s game against the Titans, setting up Gordon for a much bigger role this week against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Fantasy Football analysis: Broncos RB Melvin Gordon

Gordon finished last week’s game with 78 rushing yards on 15 carries. He also found the end zone. Quarterback Drew Lock threw him the ball three times for eight yards.

Normally, in a situation like this, Gordon would be in a prime position to roll up fantasy points with Lindsay out of action. However, the issue this week is Denver’s opponent, a Steelers team that virtually erases Saquon Barkley from the picture last week against the Giants. Barkley had just six yards in that game, which doesn’t bode well for Gordon and the Broncos.

Still, Denver does have a better offensive line than the Giants, which helps a little bit against a tough front seven. And with injury concerns to other offensive skill players, the Broncos won’t have much choice but to feature Gordon in the game plan this week. He’s got a pretty low ceiling because of the matchup, but the workload makes him worth a RB2 spot or someone to slide into the Flex role in most lineups.
