Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski might be getting all of the attention with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers offense, but it’s carry-overs like Mike Evans and Scotty Miller who are the bread and butter of the Tampa passing attack.
Last week, Mike Evans drew the short straw and was pinned up against Marshon Lattimore the majority of the game against the New Orleans Saints. Evans was able to somewhat salvage his day by hauling in a single two-yard pass for a touchdown on a play when Lattimore was not in coverage, but Scotty Miller had the better day overall, catching five of six targets for 73 yards.
This week, the Buccaneers face off against another division rival, this time Teddy Bridgewater and the new-look Carolina Panthers. Carolina “only” 239 passing yards to Derek Carr and the Las Vegas Raiders last week, but that was mostly because Josh Jacobs was able to run at-will, finishing with 139 total yards and three scores.
Fantasy Football analysis: Bucs WRs Mike Evans, Scotty Miller
Like the Raiders before them, the Buccaneers could try to beat the Panthers not through the air, but on the legs of Ronald Jones, LeSean McCoy, Leonard Fournette and the Tampa rushing attack. While Bruce Arians is a coach who likes to air the ball out, there might be an easier path to victory this week against Carolina.
Mike Evans should have a bounce-back game in Week 2, as the Panthers do not boast one single cornerback of Marshon Lattimore’s caliber that they can use to shadow Evans. With Evans effectively out of the game last week due to Lattimore’s coverage, Scotty Miller became almost the de facto #2 option behind last year’s breakout star in Chris Godwin.
Chris Godwin is still in concussion protocol and was downgraded on Saturday to out. With Godwin unable to play, Scotty Miller could have another big game as the No. 2 option for the Buccaneers, but Mike Evans should be started regardless of what happens with the team around him.
Fantasy Start/Sit Recommendation
Start both Evans and Miller.
