Update: Justin Herbert will get the start in Week 3, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Despite the team hoping that Taylor could play, doctors have advised against it due to his punctured lung and at the moment, he is considered out “indefinitely,” per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Update: Taylor’s chest injury was inflicted by the Chargers’ own doctor, who punctured Taylor’s lung when trying to give him a pain-killing shot before the game, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
It also helps explain why Chargers coach Anthony Lynn strongly backed Taylor on Sunday night and again this week. Many coaches believe that no player should lose his job to an injury — especially one that accidentally came at the hands of a team doctor. The Chargers previously said Taylor suffered complications from an injection. Those complications were a punctured lung.
Tyrod Taylor missed Week 2 with a chest injury and complications from an injection, which forced Justin Herbert to start on just minutes notice against the Chiefs. That injury might keep him out in Week 3 against the Carolina Panthers weak defense, instead, giving Herbert another chance to start.
From @GMFB: The #Chargers QB situation should come into focus this week, as it would be a quick recovery for Tyrod Taylor to return for Week 3. Could be another week of Justin Herbert. pic.twitter.com/bInQiikOZK

Chargers coach Anthony Lynn will start Taylor if he is healthy, but there is little doubt that Herbert proved that he can play in this league with a good game against the Chiefs. If he does end up starting, he could make things a lot tougher on Lynn going into Week 4.
For fantasy, the matchup with the Panthers is a good one, but Herbert is the only quarterback of the two that showed enough to be worth a streaming option in Week 3.
