The Oklahoma Sooners are coming off a blowout victory over an FCS opponent, while the Kansas State Wildcats are looking to rebound from a shocking loss to open the season to open Big XII play for both on Saturday, Sept. 26.
Oklahoma beat up on the Bobby Petrino-led Missouri State team 48-0 on Sept. 12, but it’s tough to take away too much from this game. For one, it was on pay-per-view for $54.99 and secondly, this is a College Football Playoff caliber team facing an FCS opponent. New quarterback Spencer Rattler looked good in his first game as a starter, completing 14 of 17 passes for 290 yards and four touchdowns. If he can put up similar numbers against a much tougher defense on Saturday, it will mean good things for the Sooners against Kansas State and the rest of the season.
The Wildcats came in as double-digit favorites when they played Arkansas State on Sept. 12, but Kansas State lost 35-31 after a late touchdown for the Red Wolves. It’s obviously a devastating blow to start the season, but the Wildcats had two weeks to prepare for Oklahoma, which Kansas State beat 48-41 last season as significant underdogs. The Wildcats are more likely to have success throwing the ball on Saturday, as the offensive line was unable to move Arkansas State defenders on a consistent basis.

The Best Bet
It certainly appears oddsmakers are overreacting to one game. Kansas State should not have troubles against a team like Arkansas State, but upsets happen. The Wildcats had plenty of time to get ready for Oklahoma and should be fired up to move past their previous game. The Sooners are likely to be the best team Kansas State sees all season, so the Wildcats should be motivated to put together a solid performance. It would be a stunner if Kansas State takes down Oklahoma for the second season in a row, but 28 points is too many. Let’s ride with the road underdogs.
Pick: Kansas State +28
