How and what to watch for Louisville vs. Pitt

Louisville will need to regroup following Saturday night’s loss to Miami, while Pitt is looking to start 3-0 this season.

NCAA Football: Syracuse at Pittsburgh Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Saturday’s early slate will feature a pair of games between ranked teams including the No. 24 Louisville Cardinals traveling to play the 21st-ranked Pitt Panthers on Sept. 26.

Louisville is coming off a high-scoring 47-34 loss at home against Miami on Saturday night after opening up its season with a 35-21 win over Western Kentucky. The Cardinals moved the ball well against the Hurricanes, and Malik Cunningham threw for 307 yards on 26 of 36 passing with three touchdowns and an interception. He will be looking the way of Tutu Atwell, who caught two touchdown passes on Saturday with 114 yards on eight catches.

Pitt’s strength is going to be its defense in 2020. The Panthers followed up a 55-0 win over Austin Peay with a 21-10 output against Syracuse on Saturday. It’s unlikely either of the offenses on Pitt’s schedule so far will have a particularly good season, but limiting an ACC opponent to just 171 total yards is worth noting. Pitt quarterback Kenny Pickett has gotten off to a hot start, completing nearly 70% of his passes for 492 yards with three touchdowns and one interception through two games.

These two teams last played in 2015, a 45-34 win for the Panthers in Pittsburgh.

Game Time/TV Channel/Streaming

Saturday’s game will start at noon ET at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This game will appear on ACC Network.

The Best Bet

Pitt might have the best defense in all of college football this season and will be the best unit on the field in this game. Louisville gave up 47 points to Miami on Saturday night, but plenty of touchdowns were scored on busted coverages, which we can assume will at least be somewhat cleaned up heading into this one. Which team will cover the spread is a bit of a toss up, but let’s hop on the under, breaking Louisville’s streak of seven straight overs.
