How and what to watch for Georgia Southern vs. Louisiana

New, comment

Louisiana avoided a letdown loss after a big season-opening win, while Georgia Southern will face its first FBS opponent of the season.

The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns survived a scare last weekend as the No. 19 team in college football returns home for a matchup with the Georgia Southern Eagles on Saturday, Sept. 26.

Coming off a 31-14 road victory over Iowa State in the opening week of the season, the Ragin’ Cajuns found themselves trailing Georgia State by 14 points twice last weekend. Louisiana came back and won 34-31 in overtime to move to 2-0 on the season, and Elijah Mitchell rushed for 164 yards and scored the game-winning touchdown.

Georgia Southern had its game against FAU postponed last week, and is coming in 1-0 after a 27-26 home win over FCS opponent Campbell. The Eagles trailed 20-6 late in the third quarter before scoring 21 unanswered points, finished by a 41-yard touchdown run for Shai Wert. Campbell scored with seconds remaining and missed what likely would’ve been a game-winning two-point conversion.

Louisiana won this matchup in 2019 by a score of 37-24 in Statesboro, Georgia.

The Best Bet

Louisiana was riding high probably feeling pretty good about itself after a season-opening win over Iowa State, a then-ranked Power 5 program. As we see plenty of times in sports betting, the Ragin’ Cajuns may have gone through a bit of a letdown following the big win. Fortunately Louisiana still ended up winning last weekend without its best performance. Look for the Ragin’ Cajuns to get back on track with a double-digit victory over Georgia Southern at home.

Pick: Louisiana -11.5
