Conn Smythe winner: Victor Hedman took home the honors following a playoff run in which he led defensemen with 10 goals and 21 points.
The Tampa Bay Lightning beat the Dallas Stars 5-4 in overtime on Friday night to take a 3-1 series lead in the Stanley Cup Final. The bubbled NHL Playoffs could potentially end on Saturday night if the Lightning pull off a victory. After four games, three names are separating themselves from the rest to win the Conn Smythe Trophy, given to the MVP of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Tampa Bay’s trio of potential winners heading into Game 5 include Brayden Point at +150 odds, while Nikita Kucherov has the second best odds at +165. Victor Hedman is looking at +175 odds heading into Saturday night.
Kucherov is currently leading the league in points during the playoffs with 32, while Point has 30. Hedman has 21 points for the Lightning.
Point came into the series at +150 odds and remains the same through four games in the Stanley Cup Final. After the top three, there is a bit of a drop off with Lightning goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy checking in at +1700 for fourth highest odds.
The trophy has been given out to a player on the losing team five times, most recently in 2003 with Jean-Sebastien Giguere, the goaltender for the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim.
It’s unlikely the Stars can win three games in a row to win the Stanley Cup, but if they do there is some value to be had for Miro Heiskanen or Anton Khudobin. These two players have the best odds to win the award for Dallas at +3000. Heiskanen entered the series at +250, while Khudobin was at +300.
Heiskanen is third in points throughout the NHL Playoffs with 25 so if the Stars come back into this series, he could have tremendous value right now as a long shot to win the Conn Smythe Trophy.
