David Montgomery is coming off of a stellar Week 2 performance, while Tarik Cohen has yet to hit his stride this season. In Week 3, they will face an Atlanta defense that has been friendly to running backs so far this season, allowing both Chris Carson and Ezekiel Elliot to top 20 points thus far. Will either of these Bears running backs be able to capitalize on a weak Falcons defense and have a big day? We break down the fantasy analysis below.
Fantasy Football analysis: Bears RBs David Montgomery, Tarik Cohen
David Montgomery received 16 carries in Week 2 which he turned into 82 yards. He also added three receptions for 45 yards and a touchdown, and finished the day with 21.7 PPR points. This was one of the best performances of Montgomery’s career and he will look to improve upon it this weekend in Atlanta. Montgomery’s usage in the passing game increases his value, particularly in PPR leagues. Montgomery has an opportunity for another big day against Atlanta and belongs in most lineups.
Tarik Cohen’s value certainly takes a hit if Montgomery is going to continue to be used in the passing game. He has already seen limited usage this season, receiving a total of 12 carries in the first two games. His role as the primary passing down back also appears to be fading as he has recorded only three receptions in the past two weeks. Cohen is not receiving a workload that could make him recommendable in most leagues. He can serve as a flex option or a fill in for an injury ridden team against a susceptible Atlanta defense, but can be left on the bench in most instances.
Fantasy Start/Sit Recommendation
Start Montgomery as an RB2
Sit Cohen in standard leagues; Use as a flex play in deeper leagues
