UPDATE: The Broncos have decided on Brett Rypien as their starter for Thursday night, per NFL Network’s James Palmer. Rypien will take on the Jets for his first ever start. Can you feel the excitement?
Coach Vic Fangio finds himself in the unenviable position of starting either Jeff Driskel or Brett Rypien this Thursday night against the New York Jets. He plans to decide by Tuesday who will get the start of the two and says that newly signed Blake Bortles hasn’t been with the team long enough to be in the running on a short week, per the Broncos website.
Both Driskel and Rypien saw work against the Buccaneers in Week 3, with Driskel completing 17-of-30 passes for 176 yards, one touchdown, and one interception while being sacked five times. Rypien came in for the final offensive possession of the game and completed 8-of-9 passes for 53 yards, and an interception.
When asked if both quarterbacks could take snaps again on Thursday, he responded:
“Yeah, that’s always available. Pulling quarterbacks in and out unless you have a good reason to isn’t something you want to do a whole lot of. But yes, in this situation, it could be a mix of the guys.”
Thankfully, the Broncos get to face the Jets, who still have their starting quarterback, but that’s the most positive statement you can make about their organization at this point in time.
