There will be one less college football game this weekend according to Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports, as the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs vs. the Baylor Bears won’t play due to an outbreak of Covid-19 on the Ruston, Louisiana campus in the wake of Hurricane Laura.
One of the higher profile matchups of college football on Saturday, which was scheduled to air on Fox, has been cleared from the calendar this weekend after a rash of positive COVID-19 cases at Louisiana Tech.
Louisiana Tech had 38 players test positive for COVID-19 in the wake of Hurricane Laura and would have been without many others due to contact-tracing regulations, a source told Yahoo Sports.
Hurricane Laura hit the Ruston area on Aug. 27, which led to a power outage for between seven and 10 days in the area around the school. This prompted players to need to move around, break their routine and made social distancing much more difficult.
A team can’t be expected to perform with 38 players missing, and it’s no surprise Skip Holtz and his team have decided that making the journey with so few players would be pointless and possibly dangerous.
It’s the third Big XII game to be either canceled or postponed this weekend, as Tulsa vs. Oklahoma State and SMU vs. TCU have also been rescheduled.
Baylor was listed as an 18.5 point favorite at DraftKings Sportsbook, and all bets will be refunded if the game isn’t played on the assigned date of Saturday, September 12th. The game has been taken off the board at DraftKings as well.
