The College Football Playoff is finally here and even in an unpredictable year, it’s still the Clemson Tigers and the Ohio State Buckeyes vying for a spot in the National Championship.
So where are sports bettors going as we get closer to game time? Let’s take a look. All odds and info were provided by DraftKings Sportsbook.
Point Spread
Clemson is favored by seven points, with 61% of the handle and 67% of the bets coming in for the Tigers.
Is the public right?
I tend to agree with the public on this one. Ohio State has looked good but not great this season. Of the good teams they have played, they haven’t really overpowered anybody.
Clemson is rolling and with Trevor Lawerence at the helm, there’s a very small chance this team loses today. Dabo Swinney wouldn’t be playing with motivational fire otherwise.
Over/Under
The total is currently set at 67.5 points, with 69% of the handle and 74% of the bets slamming the over.
Is the public right?
Again I tend to agree with the public here. Clemson’s offense has shown the ability to dominate even very good teams, just look at the ACC title game against Notre Dame whent they were at full-strength.
Ohio State can score as well, but their defense hasn’t seen anything even close to the Clemson offense this season.
Moneyline
Clemson is at -286 while the Buckeyes are sitting at +220 on the money line. Right now, 72% of the handle and 75% of the bets are rocking with the Tigers.
Is the public right?
Yes, Clemson should clearly win this game. It won’t be easy, but if they continue to play the way they have been in recent weeks, they’ll earn a spot in the national title game.
Sugar Bowl: Clemson vs. OSU
Opening line: Clemson -7.5
Current line: Clemson -7
Analysis
This actually surprised me, as I expected the line to increase in Clemson’s favor quite a bit before kickoff. Instead the public seems to have a ton of faith in Justin Fields and OSU. I’ve got to say, I don’t quite understand that one.
