Update 12:45 4th quarter: Ian Book was throwing on the sideline during Alabama’s possession, and Book returned to the game when Notre Dame got the ball back.
The Alabama Crimson Tide pulled off their first sack of the game, and Ian Book was forced to leave the game with an undisclosed injury in the third quarter. Christian Barmore picked up the sack for a 14-yard loss.
True freshman Drew Pyne entered the game at quarterback for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and finished off the drive, completing one pass for seven yards. He came into this game completing one of two passes for five yards with one carry for four yards.

Book completed 13 of 17 passes for 105 yards with one interception, which came on Notre Dame’s previous possession. The Fighting Irish were down 28-7 when he went down with the injury.
