Notre Dame manages the backdoor cover vs. Alabama in 2021 Sugar Bowl

Did Alabama find a cover in the Rose Bowl? Did the total come in? We check on everything that happened from an odds perspective here.

Ian Book’s touchdown with 56 seconds remaining may have been academic for the outcome of the Rose Bowl between Alabama and Notre Dame, but his one-yard rushing score certainly made a lot of money move at DraftKings Sportsbook and beyond.

Notre Dame closed as a 19.5-point favorite at DraftKings, and the late TD made the final score 31-14 which made the Irish the winner if you had them against the spread. The line didn’t move too much from the open until kickoff, so basically everyone that had ND came away a winner because of the 14-play, 80-yard drive that took 5:32 off the game clock.

It’s not surprising that this had many people on social media both happy and sad.

But just another day of betting on college football in 2020. It’s just like every other bad beat, but since it’s in the College Football Playoff semifinal with a spot in the national championship on the line, well... It Just Means More.

Even with an onsides kick recovery for a stalled drive afterwards, the total was never in doubt, as it closed at 66 and it didn’t get close.
