It’s an important matchup for two Big Ten teams hoping for a top conference tournament seed.

The No. 5-ranked Iowa Hawkeyes will be welcoming the No. 16-ranked Minnesota Golden Gophers to Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET in Iowa City, IA.

The Luka Garza-led Hawkeyes (10-2, 4-1) have won three-straight games, with their most recent victory happening Thursday night against Maryland. The Hawkeyes defeated the Terrapins 89-67, thanks in large part to an 18-point halftime lead. Iowa center Luke Garza led both teams in scoring with 24 points on 9-of-14 shooting from the field and 2-of-4 from three-point range. He also had seven rebounds, four assists, and was the only Hawkeyes starter to score in double-figures.

As for the Golden Gophers (10-3, 3-3), they lost 82-57 on Wednesday to the Michigan Wolverines. Marcus Carr led Minnesota in scoring with 14 points on 5-of-16 shooting from the field.

He was the only player in double-figures for a Golden Gophers squad that shot a horrendous 32.4 percent from the field and 25 percent from three-point range. Meanwhile, Minnesota’s defense allowed the Michigan to shoot 56.9 percent from the field. And they were out rebounded 40-31, which is not a recipe for success.

Luka Garza at home is one of the toughest forces in college basketball. It’s tough against a Minny team that shows flashes of competence, but we’ll lay the wood here.

Pick: Iowa -9.5
