The Atlanta Hawks announced Sunday that G/F Bogdan Bogdanovic has suffered an avulsion fracture in his right knee and there is associated soft tissue inflammation and a bone bruise. Bogdanovic sustained the injury during Saturday’s loss to the Charlotte Hornets. There is no timetable for Bogdanovic’s return to the lineup as of now.

This is tough news for the Hawks, who signed Bogdanovic to a four-year, $72 million deal as a restricted free agent this offseason. Bogdanovic was averaging 9.9 points on 36.2 percent shooting from beyond the arc over 9 games this season. Bogdanovic had only started two games for the Hawks, mostly coming off the bench. The Hawks have had major injury issues early on in the season, even before the Bogdanovic news.

In addition to Bogdanovic, the Hawks have had to endure injuries to Rajon Rondo, Kris Dunn, Tony Snell, Danilo Gallinari, Onyeka Okongwu, Bruno Fernando and most recently Kevin Huerter and Trae Young. The Hawks’ depth is being tested and so far the team has been able to stay afloat. At 4-5, the Hawks are still in the playoff race but have dropped four games in a row after starting the season 4-1.
