We’re in Week 4 of the 2020-21 NBA season is hardly underway but there are already a few players who stand out as quality waiver wire targets at the power forward position. We’ve identified three players rostered in less than 50 percent of ESPN league. Here’s who you should keep an eye on if you need help in the backcourt.
Kelly Olynyk, Miami Heat
Ownership percentage: 25 percent
Olynyk has proven to be Miami’s most dangerous player at power forward. He’s made multiple threes in six straight games and has tallied double-digits in points with at least five rebounds in each of his last five contests.
Thaddeus Young, Chicago Bulls
Ownership percentage: 7.5 percent
Young missed the first couple of games this season because of an illness but is now a regular rotation big for Chicago. While his minutes could be tied to the health of Lauri Markkanen and Otto Porter Jr. down the road both of them are banged up right now, Young’s underrated playmaking and scoring make him more just a backup big giving you empty minutes.
Carmelo Anthony, Portland Trail Blazers
Ownership percentage: 34.1 percent
Melo is still Melo and that means he can always have an unexpected scoring outburst. He has one against the Toronto Raptors early this week and scored 20 points in 35 minutes and Enes Kanter has been the only other consistent scoring punch off the bench. He’s just outside the top 25 among power forwards in terms of total points scored.
