The penalty for roughing the passer has always been a tough one to figure out as the league puts in more and more rules to protect the quarterback. We are seeing some bad calls from referees, and we can of course add QB flopping to the mix.
Josh Allen has emerged into an impressive quarterback these past two seasons, and now he’s adding an effective flop to his repertoire. The Buffalo Bills had a 1st and 10 at the Baltimore Ravens 22 yard line in their Divisional round matchup. He rolled out and threw the ball away, but Justin Madubuike got the barest of hands on him. It likely was going to send Allen stumbling a bit, but the Bills QB took it a step further and went to the ground. The Ravens were flagged for roughing the passer and the Bills moved half the distance to the goal.
It ended up only making a field goal attempt a little easier, but in a playoff game, these kinds of bad penalty calls can end a season.
