How to handle Sammy Watkins injury in the 2021 NFL Playoffs

Sammy Watkins is on the Chiefs final injury report for the Divisional round of the 2021 NFL Playoffs. We break down what it means for fantasy football roster decisions.

The Kansas City Chiefs will not have wide receiver Sammy Watkins in the lineup for this Sunday’s Divisional game against the Cleveland Browns. Watkins hurt his calf in Week 16, and he hasn’t seen the field since then. He didn’t practice all week, so the news isn’t a huge surprise.

Fantasy impact: Sammy Watkins (calf)

Without Watkins, the Chiefs will use Mecole Hardman, Demarcus Robinson, and Bryon Pringle. The latter didn’t see much action this year, but did come off injured reserve in time to catch four passes for 52 yards and a touchdown playing with the backups in Week 17.

Robinson had an edge during the season in games where the Chiefs were without Watkins, and might be worth a flyer in some fantasy formats. Hardman had a slight edge in overall production over Robinson during the season. The problem with the guys down the depth chart in Kansas City is that the offense leans heavily on Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce in the passing game.
