UPDATE: It appears that Payton sniped his trick play from their Wild Card opponent the Chicago Bears, who ran the exact same play, but with different results.

Sean Payton’s mind is always on overdrive and it was was again as he sent Jameis Winston in for Drew Brees to run a beautifully conceived trick play. Winston lined up as a wide receiver while Alvin Kamara took the direct snap, handed it off to Emmanuel Sanders, who then tossed it back to Winston who then passed it to a wide open Tre’Quan Smith for a 56-yard touchdown.
Winston was let go by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this off-season, so it has to be extra sweet for him to be able contribute. The New Orleans Saints now have a 13-10 lead midway through the second quarter.
TRICK PLAY.
