The New Orleans Pelicans will be trying to snap the Utah Jazz’s five-game winning streak when they play each other on Tuesday night at Vivint Smart Arena. The Pelicans are coming into this game off of a high-scoring 128-123 victory over the Sacramento Kings on Sunday night.
Second-year forward Zion Williamson led the way for the Pelicans with an efficient 31 points (13-15 FG) and six rebounds. Williamson was one of six New Orleans players that were in double-figures.
The Pelicans did a great job controlling the glass, outrebounding the Kings 48-33. They also shot the ball well too, shooting 52.9 percent from the field and 50 percent from three-point range. They will need to continue to shoot the ball well against one of the hottest in the league in Utah.
As previously mentioned, the Jazz are riding a five-game winning streak, with their latest win coming over the Denver Nuggets. In their 109-105 victory, Utah received major contributions from both the bench and starters. Sixth man Jordan Clarkson led the Jazz in scoring with 23 points (9-13 FG, 4-8 3pt) in 30 minutes off the bench. Meanwhile, Donovan Mitchell had 18 points to lead the starters, along with seven assists, and three rebounds.
What can we expect from these two teams on Tuesday? And who should you pick against the spread? To answer those questions and more, here is our pick against the spread and a player prop you need to think about dropping cash on them. Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook.
New Orleans Pelicans vs. Utah Jazz, 9:00 p.m. ET
Pick ATS: Jazz -6
As of right now, the line for this game between the Pelicans and Jazz is set at 5.5 points, with Utah being favored. Both teams are coming into Tuesday night’s contest relatively healthy. The Pels have been without third-year point guard Lonzo Ball due to injury, but might get him back before game time.
Meanwhile, the Jazz are still without Joe Ingles and Derrick Favors. Over the course of their winning streak, Utah has been dominant against the spread with a record of 5-0. They’ve also won by an average of 16.5 points. As for the Pelicans, they just snapped their five-game losing streak on Sunday night. It wasn’t pretty as they allowed De’Aaron Fox to erupt for 43 points. But thanks to their three-point shooting and rebounding skills, they were able to capture the win.
Looking at Tuesday night’s contest, the Pelicans’ three-point defense has struggled in these last three games, allowing teams to shoot 40.7 percent from the field. The Jazz, however, are scorching the nets, shooting 46.8 percent from distance in their last three game. I’m taking the Jazz and the points.
Player Prop: Donovan Mitchell O3.5 3-pointers made (+121)
This is a high-risk prop bet because of how volatile Donovan Mitchell’s shooting has been over his career. But the good news is he’s facing a Pelicans’ team that is struggling to defend against the three-point shot. This season, Mitchell is shooting a career-best 37.4 percent from behind the arc on 8.8 attempts per game. In 13 games played, the former first-round pick has made over 3.5 three-pointers six times. Over the Jazz’s five-game winning streak, he's averaging 4.8 three-pointers made and shooting 55.9 percent from distance.
