The New Orleans Saints will be without all of their normal running backs due to COVID-19. Alvin Kamara tested positive for the virus on Thursday, and now Latavius Murray, Dwayne Washington, and Mike Burton have all been ruled out as close contacts, per Jay Glazer.
The Saints will send out Ty Montgomery and promote Tony Jones Jr. from their practice squad. Glazer also noted that running backs coach Joel Thomas was deemed a close contact.
Kamara is the only one of the group to test positive and will miss a minimum of ten days. The rest have to remain on the COVID-19 IR list for five days and if they continue to test negative, they can then return to the active roster. Kamara could still return for the Saints first round playoff game if they don’t move into the No. 1 spot, but it would require the game be played Sunday, him not practicing next week leading up to the game, and also him flying on his own to the game the day of the playoff game
