How the public is betting Northwestern vs. No. 10 Wisconsin

Northwestern has struggled, losing five straight. Will tonight make it 6 in a row?

NCAA Basketball: Wisconsin at Rutgers Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports

On Wednesday night the Northwestern Wildcats look to right the ship as they head to Madison to take on the No. 10 Wisconsin Badgers. Tipoff is at 8 p.m ET on Big Ten Network.

So where are sports bettors going as we get closer to game time? Let’s take a look. All odds and info were provided by DraftKings Sportsbook.

Point Spread

The Badgers are an 11 point favorite. The public is backing them with 85 percent of the handle and 81 percent of bets.

Early in the season, Northwestern looked like they could make a run at the NCAA Tournament and was even ranked in the top 25 for a few weeks. They’ve since crashed back down to Earth, losing five straight, none of them particularly close. Wisconsin isn’t blowing the doors off of their opponents, so this one has the potential to be close, but it’s unlikely. Northwestern has been real bad recently.

The point total sits at 135.5. The public is split on this one. 57 percent of bets are on the over while 85 percent of handle is on the under.

Is the public right?

I think the over hits here. Northwestern has been giving up a ton of points to their opponents recently, but Wisconsin hasn’t been scoring a crazy number of points. Still, I think the Wildcats’ shaky defense and solid offense combine to hit 136 at least

Wisconsin is -715 favorites while Northwestern is a +500 underdog. The public does not expect an upset, with 98 percent of handle and 97 percent of bets on Wisconsin.

Is the public right?

Yeah, the public hit this one on the nose. If Northwestern wins that might be the biggest upset of the season based on how they're playing right now.
