NCAA Basketball: Clemson at Georgia Tech Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

On Saturday night the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (7-3) head up to Charlottesville to try and take down the No. 13 Virginia Cavaliers (9-2) in an ACC matchup.

Georgia Tech has won five straight games in relatively convincing fashion, though they haven’t beat a ranked team yet this season. Still the Yellow Jackets offense is very good, averaging over 80 points per game. They have four players in double figures and three guys who score 15 or more each game. Moses Wright leads the way with 17.4, then Jose Alvarado averages 17.1 and finally, Michael Devoe averages 15 points each game. Defense is where they tend to struggle though, giving up over 73 points to their opponents each game. KenPom has Tech ranked as the 61st best team in the nation, but the 45th best offensive unit.

UVA is a much more well-rounded team than GT has been this season. The last time they hit the floor they beat a ranked opponent for the first time all season, taking down Clemson. The Cavs 73 points per game, which is slightly less than Tech, but their defense is much more reliable. Virginia allows opponents to score just 59 points per game on average, holding six of their 11 opponents below 60 points. KenPom gives them a 79% chance to get a win in this game.

The Best Bet

We’re thinking about Tony Bennett’s offense while writing this, and are thus a little drowsy so if we make a mistake apologies in advance. But somehow the DEAD LAST team in possessions per game (60.8, a full 1.6 less than anyone else, good for 347th in America) still is covering totals. Having the 10th best offense in college basketball via efficiency helps. We found a total that’s actually too low for the Hoos. Amazingly it’s not in double digits either.

Pick: Over 124
