The Kansas City Chiefs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers will square off on February 7th in Super Bowl 55, in what will be 14th Super Bowl rematch of a regular season contest. The Bucs and Chiefs squared off in Week 12, also in Tampa, in a game the Chiefs won 27-24.
The Chiefs opened as 3.5 point favorites with the point total at 54 when DraftKings Sportsbook posted the first point spread for the game. The Chiefs were -175 favorites on the moneyline while the Bucs were +150. When odds closed just before kickoff, the point spread remained 3.5, while the total had climbed to 56.5. The Chiefs were -186 favorites on the moneyline while the Bucs were +160.
The Chiefs won outright, while Bucs ended up with the cover and the game finished under the point total. The Bucs had a shot at the upset and we could have hit the over, but Tampa came up short in their comeback effort.
Kansas City jumped out to a 17-0 lead in the first quarter and looked like they were going to cruise, leading 27-10 headed into the fourth quarter. The Bucs opened the fourth quarter at their own 31, but moved 69 yards in seven plays capped by Tom Brady connecting with Mike Evans for a 31-yard touchdown. The Bucs defense forced a Chiefs punt on the next drive and marched 73 yards on ten plays in 2:11 to cut the Chiefs lead to 27-24.
The Bucs couldn’t get a stop on the Chiefs next drive and KC was able to run out the clock. The Bucs dropped to 7-5 with the loss but managed to cover the 3.5 point spread.
