How and what to watch for No. 17 Creighton vs. Seton Hall

The Seton Hall Pirates will be looking for revenge against a Creighton Blue Jays team that blew them out a couple of weeks ago.

The No. 17-ranked Creighton Blue Jays will be trying to keep pace with Villanova in the Big East when they play the Seton Hall Pirates Wednesday night at 7 p.m. ET. The Blue Jays are currently a half-game behind the Wildcats for first place.

Creighton (11-4, 7-3) heads into this conference battle coming off of an eight-point win over the Connecticut Huskies. Before that win, the Blue Jays suffered two-straight losses by eight total points over Providence Friars and Butler Bulldogs. This season, CU averages 74.9 points per game and only concedes 71.3 points per game on the defensive end.

The Pirates (9-6) are coming off a tough two-point loss to the No. 3-ranked Villanova Wildcats on Saturday. Seton Hall forward Sandro Mamukelashvili was the game’s leading scorer with 23 points, to go with nine rebounds, and five assists. The senior big man is the Pirates’ best player as he leads them both in points (18.4) and rebounds (7.0). This will be Seton Hall’s first game home since January 2nd against the Butler Bulldogs.

  • Despite having a winning record at 11-4, the Blue Jays are 2-6 against the spread in their last eight games. Additionally, they have a below .500 record ATS on the road at 2-3.
  • The point total has gone under in five of Creighton’s last seven games.
  • The Pirates are better doing against the spread than their opponents with a record of 5-3 in their last eight games. At the Prudential Center this season, they are 4-2 against the spread.
  • The point total has gone under in seven of Seton Hall’s last 10 games this season.

The Best Bet

If this line goes down any further, we will be in pick’em territory between these two Big East foes. The last time these two teams played each other, the Blue Jays blew out the Pirates 89-53 on January 6. This time around Seton Hall wants to return the favor, who played well against a Villanova team just returning from a COVID-19 layoff. But Creighton plays good defense, only giving up 69.1 points per game. But I can’t see another a blowout in back-to-back games happening.

Pick: Seton Hall +1.5
