The Virginia Tech Hokies took a bad loss at Syracuse, and they’ll want to bounce back against an ACC also-ran in the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Tuesday night in South Bend, Indiana.

Virginia Tech (11-3, 5-2 ACC) isn’t amazing at anything, but is competent at everything. They get less than 67 possessions per game and do slow the ball down, but Keve Aluma makes them go with 13.9 points per game and 7.1 rebounds. The junior forward leads a team that has been ninth in offensive efficiency in ACC play, and just seventh defensively, but finds a way to grind out victories.

Notre Dame (5-8, 2-5 ACC) can score, but just can’t stop anyone. They give up 110.8 points per 100 possessions, and the inability to prevent scoring has been their problem all season. Prentiss Hubb and Nate Laszewski are a great junior guard-forward combination, combining for 30.7 points per game, but they’re one of the worst teams in America in forcing turnovers on only 12.7% of possessions.

The Best Bet

The Hokies need this to avoid an ACC landmine, and the Irish are just playing out the string. It’s hard to get motivated when you’ve been kicked in the teeth over and over. VPI gets a win here.

Pick: Hokies -107
