The Brooklyn Nets are adding more depth. The Eastern Conference’s newest superteam is finalizing a deal with free-agent guard Iman Shumpert, according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania.
Brooklyn already has one of the most dynamic backcourts in the NBA with Kyrie Irving and James Harden as its starting guards, and Shumpert has ties to both stars. Shumpert played with Irving as a Cleveland Cavalier and was a member of the 2016 championship team. He also played alongside Harden during his 20-game stint with the Houston Rockets in the 2018-19 season before making 13 appearances for the Nets last season.
Shumpert’s career field goal percentage (39.2) shows that his offensive game can be streaky, but his length and athleticism could allow him to become a valubale wing defender off the bench. If he molds with the team quickly after taking significant time off, he could cut into the minutes of Bruce Brown and Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot.
