Clemson Tigers quarterback Trevor Lawrence declared for the 2021 NFL Draft via video on Wednesday morning. Lawrence was one of the four players in contention for the Heisman Trophy this season, which was awarded to Alabama wide receiver Devonta Smith on Tuesday night. The standout junior quarterback saw his season come to an unceremonious end last week in the College Football Playoff semifinal game against the Ohio State Buckeyes.
In what was his final college football game, Lawrence was 33-of-48 for 400 yards, two touchdowns, an interception, and a rushing touchdown. Heading into this season, Lawrence was looked at as the top overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft and played well enough to maintain his hold on the spot. The Jacksonville Jaguars hold the top pick this coming April.
The 6-foot-6 signal-caller completed a career-high 69.2 percent of his passes for 3,153 yards, 24 touchdowns, and only five interceptions. He also added 203 rushing yards and eight scores on the ground.
