Fantasy basketball waiver wire mid-week adds at center

We’re in Week 3 of the 2020-21 NBA season and more bigs have made their cases as quality mid-week waiver-wire targets ahead of Week 4. We’ve identified three players at the center position rostered in less than 50 percent of ESPN league. Here’s who you should keep an eye on if you need help in the frontcourt.

Wendell Carter Jr., Chicago Bulls

Ownership: 38 percent

Carter is still improving and doesn’t have much competition at the center position. The third-year big man is relieved by Daniel Gafford sparingly and can do a little bit of everything. He’s the Bulls’ leading rebounder, is growing as a passer, and can chip in with blocks and steals as well. If you want a starter with the potential for a ton of growth, Carter is your guy.

Bobby Portis, Milwaukee Bucks

Ownership: 26.8 percent

Portis is backing up Brook Lopez but has been the more productive big so far. Portis outpaces Lopez in minutes and fantasy points per game. Milwaukee has been blowing teams out left and right lately and if that doesn’t change Portis will get plenty of garbage time to shine.

Gorgui Dieng, Memphis Grizzlies

Ownership: 4.9 percent

Dieng has benefitted from the Grizzlies’ lack of frontcourt depth and has logged more than 20 minutes in four straight contests. Memphis’s big rotation mainly centers around Jonas Valanciunas, Brandon Clarke, and Dieng. Xavier Tillman has begun to get in the mix too while Jaren Jackson Jr. is out. Dieng won’t put up crazy numbers but impacts the game when he’s on the floor and is shooting 54.2 percent from the floor.
