How the public is betting the third round of the FA Cup

The third round of the Emirates FA Cup takes place this weekend as the Premier League and other English football leagues are on hiatus to make room for the massive slew of fixtures. There’s plenty of action to keep anyone busy all weekend long with something for everyone, so let’s take a look at some of the highlights of the upcoming slate and how the public is betting on them.

Arsenal v. Newcastle, Saturday January 9, 12:30p.m. ET

No surprise here as the public overwhelmingly is voting in favor of Arsenal, who enter the third round as the favorites in their matchup and are fully expected to take down Newcastle. The Gunners are on a three-game winning streak in EPL play, having taken down Chelsea, Brighton, and West Brom in quick succession. They’ll turn their focus to the Magpies in hopes of advancing to the fourth round in just a couple of weeks. History is on their side as the last three home games against Newcastle in FA Cup play have all ended in 3-0 victories for the Gunners. This will be a fun one to watch unfold, being one of the few matchups that sees EPL teams go head to head.

It’s clear who is massively favored to win this match, but if you like to walk on the wild side, this is one of the few matches that could pay out big if you bet on the underdog and they pull off a victory. Let’s be clear: Man City will most likely win this game. In fact, if they don’t, it will be headline news that a Championship side knocked out a Premier League club early in the competition. Man City hasn’t missed out on the fourth round since the 2011-12 season when they lost to Man United at home, and they also haven’t lost to Birmingham in their last 12 games at home against the Blues.
