The Boston Red Sox now have a 2-1 series over the Houston Astros after won 12-3 at Fenway Park on Monday night. Just like in Game 2, the Red Sox used the long ball to their benefit as Kyle Schwarber hit a grand slam in the second inning. It’s the third grand slam that Boston has hit in this series alone. Along with Schwarber, J.D. Martinez, Rafael Devers, and Christian Arroyo all hit home runs in the blowout win.
For Game 4 at Fenway Park (8:08 p.m. ET/FS1), the Astros will start Zack Greinke, while the Red Sox will give the ball to Nick Pivetta. Let’s take a look at the moneyline on DraftKings Sportsbook and make a pick.
The Astros were listed as a slight underdog in Game 3 against the Astros and proceeded to get smack by the Red Sox on Monday. Houston is back again as a slight underdog, but will have Greinke on the mound. The veteran pitcher has yet to make a start in the postseason, but does have a ton of experience under his belt. Greinke came in as a reliever in Game 3 of the ALDS, where he pitched one inning and allowed two hits.
In the regular season, the 37-year-old was not overly dominating, but still finished with a 11-6 record and 4.16 ERA. In 14 road starts, Greinke has a 6-2 record, 3.45 ERA, and .226 OBA. The veteran pitcher faced the Red Sox earlier this season at Fenway and got lit up for seven hits and four earned runs (1 HR) in 3.0 IP. Astros manager Dusty Baker will need Greinke to at least go five innings tonight after extensively using the bullpen in consecutive games.
The Red Sox will give the ball to Pivetta, who has been outstanding in relief so far in the postseason. The 28-year-old pitcher has an ERA of 3.12, along with 11 strikeouts in 8.2 IP (two games in the ALDS). Pivetta has been a bag of mixed results this season and has struggled at home in the regular season (5.40 ERA, 17 HRs allowed in 15 starts). If he can make it through at least five innings, I trust the Red Sox’s bullpen more than the Astros, which has been hit around by Boston’s hot offense.
Pick: Red Sox -125
