The South Florida Bulls haven’t played a college basketball game in 32 days, and they’ll come back to the sport by hosting the No. 8 Houston Cougars at the Yuengling Center on Wednesday night.
USF (7-5, 3-3 AAC) saw both their men’s and women’s teams awash in COVID-19, and the practice facility they share became a super-spreader building. The Bulls did win two of their last three before going on hiatus, with wins against C. Florida and E. Carolina sandwiching a loss at home to Tulsa. Freshman point guard Caleb Murphy looks like a future all-conference candidate, and senior David Collins leads all scorers with 12.3 points per game. The Bulls are third from the bottom in Division I free throw shooting percentage at 59.8%.
Houston (16-2, 10-2 AAC) are coming off a 112-46 win over Our Lady of The Lake, an NAIA school they randomly scheduled to get a game in last Saturday. Quentin Grimes is a leading candidate for conference player of the year with 16.2 points per game for a team with the fifth-best schedule adjusted defense in college basketball. The Coogs hold opponents to just 26.4% from three-point range, and are the No. 1 team in the nation in offensive rebounding percentage, recovering 40.3% of their misses.

The Best Bet
Who knows what you’re going to get from a team that hasn’t played in over a month and just started practicing a few days ago. But when they’re facing an opponent that rebounds and defends as well as the Cougars of Kelvin Sampson, it’s likely not a great way to restart your season.
Pick: Houston -12
