Tale of the Tape for Kelvin Gastelum vs. Ian Heinisch

In a middleweight bout on the main card of UFC 258, Kelvin Gastelum will take on Ian Heinisch Saturday in Las Vegas and available on ESPN+.

The 28-year-old Gastelum comes to the octagon with a professional fighting record of 16-6 (1 NC) and is ranked ninth in the middleweight division. He’s lost three consecutive fights, including to current champion Israel Adesanya. Gastelum’s most recent bout happened in July 2020 at UFC Fight Night 172, where the Arizona native lost to Jack Hermansson in Round 1 by submission.

Gastelum lands 3.86 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy of 43 percent. He also absorbs 2.87 strikes per minute, while his defense is at 61 percent. As for grappling, he has a 0.82 takedown average per 15 minutes, with an accuracy of 50 percent. He has a pedestrian 0.18 submission average per 15, but takedown accuracy of 60 percent.

Heinisch enters the UFC APEX with a professional fighting record of 14-3 and ranked 15th at middleweight. The 32-year-old from Colorado will be fighting in the octagon for the first time since June. Heinisch was scheduled to fight Brendan Allen in November at UFC Vegas 13, but the bout was scrapped as he tested positive for COVID-19.

“The Hurricane” Heinisch is a multi-faceted fighter, who can get down on the mat when needed. He lands 3.67 strikes per minute, with 51 percent accuracy. The veteran mixed martial artist absorbs more strikes per minute than Gastelum at 3.02, but his defense is at 59 percent.

When it comes to grappling, Heinisch has 1.22 takedowns per 15 minutes and an accuracy of 19 percent. But he does a great job defending against takedowns at 62 percent, and has a submission average per 15 minutes of 0.49.
