Deshaun Watson has interest in 49ers & Broncos, per report

The 49ers and Broncos get good news in the search of a franchise quarterback.

Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson isn’t backing down from his trade request, and we are slowly learning some of the teams he would waive his no-trade clause. The most recent report has Watson interested in the San Francisco 49ers and Denver Broncos, per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. Fowler also reports that Watson doesn’t have interest in the New York Jets, which had been reported earlier.

Fowler is a strong reporter, so this report is likely accurate. We did hear last week that Watson had interest in the Broncos from his ex-teammate Kareem Jackson, who plays with the Broncos now. But, news of his interest in the 49ers is new and would very much be reciprocated.

Both the 49ers and Broncos have quarterbacks in Jimmy Garoppolo and Drew Lock, but the 49ers have already let it be known they would go with an upgrade if they could make it happen. The Broncos have said they are in on Lock, but if Watson is available, their view would likely change quickly.

The Texans still haven’t budged, and will do all they can to keep Watson, but they may have their hand forced if Watson says he won’t play in the regular season.
