In the first of two games on ESPN Friday night, we have the New Orleans Pelicans taking on the Dallas Mavericks at 7:30 p.m. ET. The Mavericks are coming into primetime matchup on a three-game winning streak, while the Pelicans just had their four-game winning streak snapped by the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday. Can the duo of Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson outplay the duo of Kristaps Porzingis and Luka Doncic? We’ll go over some ideal picks on DraftKings Sportsbook centered around the game here.
New Orleans Pelicans vs. Dallas Mavericks, 7:30 p.m. ET ESPN
Pick ATS: Pelicans +3
The line for Friday night’s game is currently set at three points, with the Mavericks being favored at home. Dallas has won their last three games by a combined total of eight points but are 0-3 against the spread in those games. When they faced the Hawks on Wednesday night, the Mavericks were three-point favorites. But Dallas had to pull off a double-digit comeback late in the third quarter to win the game.
With that in mind, I’m more inclined to take the Pelicans in this spot. They have played well over their last 10 games (6-4) and have a few good wins over the Grizzlies, Pacers, and the Suns. Furthermore, New Orleans is 4-1 against the spread in their last five games. Out of those five games, they were underdogs three times between +1 and +2.5.
Player prop: Lonzo Ball O2.5 3pt made (+110)
The last time I did a player prop selection for a game involving the Mavericks, I suggested taking Kevin Huerter over 12.5 points but also Trae Young over 2.5 three-pointers made. At the time, both were plus-money and surprisingly cleared. For Friday, we are going back to the three-pointer player prop and suggest taking Lonzo Ball over 2.5 threes made.
The eldest Ball brother has played well recently under new head coach Stan Van Gundy. Ball is averaging 13.9 points, 4.7 assists, and 4.4 rebounds per game this season. He is also shooting 42.4 percent from the field and 37.4 percent from distance on ... attempts per game.
In the Pels’ last five games, the former second overall pick is shooting 52.6 percent from three-point range. Ball is also averaging 4.0 made threes out of 7.6 attempts per game. He has gone over this mark in 11 out of 21 games. And the Mavericks’ defense is allowing teams to shoot 41.3 percent from three-point range in their last three games.
