While a global pandemic that’s shut down the world doesn’t have many benefits, one is that we’ll have college football this spring that counts! The Football Championship Subdivision (the old 1-AA) gets in full swing next weekend, but we’ll get a preview tonight with the McNeese State Cowboys heading Stephenville, Texas to take on the Tarleton State Texans at 7 p.m. ET live on FOX Sports Southwest Plus and FOX Sports Go.
Point spread and odds
Point spread: Tarleton State -2.5
Total: 51
Moneyline: McNeese State +120, Tarleton State -148
The Cowboys of the Southland conference kickoff what is planned as a seven-game schedule, with six league games as well as tonight’s opener. McNeese finished 7-5 in 2019, but their head coach took off after just one season to become the offensive coordinator for an inept Syracuse instead.
Tarleton State will be a member of the six-team WAC as of 2022, but are playing as an independent this year. That league is hoping to expand to eight members as soon as possible to get an automatic bid to the FCS playoffs before 2024, and possibly re-join the FBS in 2030.
But for now, let’s just be glad we’re back in the football business. Who needs the AAF or XFL when you’ve got real college football all spring long!
