Heavy action on Nets, Warriors for Monday’s NBA slate

We take a look at betting splits for the seven games on President’s Day.

We all hope you’re enjoying your day off from work to celebrate President’s Day. Unfortunately, there is always basketball (sort of) and we here at DraftKings Nation don’t just take days off. So we’ll go over the seven games on tap for Monday’s slate. DraftKings Sportsbook provided us with some betting splits and where the money is coming in for each game on the slate. We’re going to break down the numbers and point out some interesting trends.

Spread analysis

The heaviest amount of action so far today is on the Brooklyn Nets and Golden State Warriors on the spread. The Nets are on the road against the Sacramento Kings, who played last night. At just -4, the Nets should have enough between Kyrie Irving and James Harden to get over that number against a weaker team on the second of a back-to-back. The Kings are also dealing with injuries to Marvin Bagley and De’Aaron Fox.

The Dubs get the Cavaliers in a very similar situation, but at a higher number. Golden State is favored by 9 points at home against Cleveland, which will be without Andre Drummond again. The Cavs are coming off a blowout loss to the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday night. So second of a back-to-back on the road without one of their best players.

Over/Under analysis

The one game that sticks out from a betting percentage standpoint is the Atlanta Hawks vs. the New York Knicks. The Knicks play somewhat tough on defense and aren’t the most imposing offensive team. The Hawks don’t play any defense and play up in pace, so the total is low (218 as of this writing). In the NBA, we don’t see many games that are low scoring. If the pace is up, the Knicks will be forced to chuck more. No Mitchell Robinson in the paint for New York should make baskets easier for John Collins and Clint Capela.

Moneyline analysis

There’s enough action on the Clippers, Nets and Dubs. So we’ll talk a bit about the tougher matchup to crack. The Houston Rockets and Washington Wizards take on each other with some narrative in John Wall vs. Russell Westbrook. The line on the game is basically a pick ‘em. I think the big thing to keep an eye on is the injury report. Russ is expected to be available. It doesn’t seem like Bradley Beal will sit. Garrison Mathews is questionable for the Wiz. Victor Oladipo is out for the Rockets. So it feels like the Wizards have some momentum coming off a win over the Celtics, at home against a shorthanded Houston squad.
