The Illinois Fighting Illini avoided a bad loss over the weekend and and will look to do the same when they host the Northwestern Wildcats on Tuesday night.

Illinois (14-5, 10-3 Big Ten) is on a five-game winning streak and survived Friday night’s game against the Nebraska Cornhuskers 77-72 on the road. The Huskers led 64-58 with less than 3 minutes left before Illinois surged back to send it to overtime and get the win. Ayo Dosunmu scored 31 points on 12 of 23 shooting with six assists, and Kofi Cockburn had 21 points and 13 rebounds. They are part of the reason Illinois has the eighth-ranked offense in terms of adjusted offensive efficiency.

Northwestern (6-12, 3-11 Big Ten) continues their free fall in conference play after a hot start. The Wildcats beat Michigan State, Indiana and Ohio State in late December but have not won since then with 11 straight losses. Northwestern was beat by the Rutgers Scarlet Knights 64-50 on the road Saturday, as Chase Audige and Anthony Gaines led the Wildcats with 11 points.

The Best Bet

Northwestern is undoubtedly the best team in America that’s lost 11 in a row, and they’ve kept most of those close. Illinois tends to, ahem, drift a bit against lesser opponents. See needing overtime against Nebraska last Friday. We’ll take the points on the road and hope both teams play to form.

Pick: Northwestern +12.5
