The 2021 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series is underway, and the BrakeBest Brake Pads 159 is set to run at the Daytona Road Course on Friday. The race starts at 7:30 p.m. ET and will air on FS1.
Last week in the first race of the season, Ben Rhoades won the NextEra Energy 250 at Daytona International Speedway. He started the race at 23rd and only led seven laps to capture the win. Rhoades will be the pole leader for Friday night’s race, while Sheldon Creed will be in the fifth spot to start off.
The last race at the Daytona Road Course saw Creed win the Sunoco 159 last August. In that race, Creed’s starting position was 14th but he led 19 laps. It should be a fun race to continue the 2021 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.
The starting lineup for this race and most of the races this season will involve a performance-metric formula created last year due to COVID-19 pandemic. NASCAR will have some qualifying this season, but the ongoing pandemic will keep it limited to just a handful of the bigger races. The formula will take recent performance into account to determine the starting grid, and will apply across the three circuits (Cup, Xfinity, Truck). Here are the factors that go into determining the order.
35 percent: Team owner points ranking
25 percent: Driver’s finishing position from the previous race
25 percent: Car owner’s finishing position from the previous race
15 percent: Fastest lap from the previous race
Here’s a look at the starting grid for Friday’s race.
