The Michigan Wolverines are the top team in the Big Ten, and look to continue their march to a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament when they host the Rutgers Scarlet Knights on Thursday night at Crisler Arena in Ann Arbor.
Michigan (14-1, 9-1 Big Ten) have steamrolled everyone in their league under second-year head coach Juwan Howard, with the exception of a tough loss at The Barn in Minnesota on January 16th. With an eFG of 56.8% while holding opponents to just 43.1%, the Wolverines are in the top ten on both sides of the ball in terms of adjusted efficiency. Freshman Hunter Dickinson is one of the best players in the country, as the 7’1 big man shoots 68% from the floor with 14.9 points and 7.7 rebounds per game.
Rutgers (12-7, 8-7 Big Ten) is safely in the NCAA field as of now, but will need to pick up a few more wins before Selection Sunday to maintain that status. The Scarlet Knights do it with defense, holding opponents to just 104.2 points per 100 possessions in what might be the best conference in the country. Ron Harper Jr. leads the team offensively with 16.2 points and 6.1 rebounds per contest, and his team starts five upperclassmen, a rarity in modern college basketball.
