UPDATE: Feb. 19, 5:12 p.m. — Brown will be available to play in Friday’s game vs. the Hawks. He’s dealing with a knee injury, specifically tendonitis, per GM Danny Ainge. Despite the injury, Brown will give it a go. We don’t know if this means he’ll be a risk of being pulled or on a minutes restriction. The Hawks defeated the Celtics on Wednesday night and enter the rematch as underdogs.
Boston Celtics SG Jaylen Brown is being listed as questionable to play in Friday’s game vs. the Atlanta Hawks due to a knee injury. The Celtics removed Daniel Theis from the injury report after he missed a few games due to a finger injury. The Celtics are coming off another loss to the Hawks and will try to get back on track in the rematch to close the week. The Celtics should also get PG Kemba Walker (rest) back in the lineup after he sat out Wednesday night for maintenance.
This is bad news for the Celtics considering how much they’ve struggled over the past month. Boston GM Danny Ainge came out and told reporters recently that he’s concerned about Brown’s knee tendinitis. Clearly the Celtics are going to focus on getting Brown right rather than have him play through the injury. Brown has arguably been the Celtics’ best player this season, taking a big jump up to 25.9 points per game. He could be voted into the All-Star Game in March as well. This may hurt his odds though.
If Brown is ruled out, the Celtics will likely start Javonte Green again. He was the man to step in for Walker on Wednesday, playing 24 minutes. He won’t be a bad value play but really the guy to hone in on is Walker. Jayson Tatum has been dealing with some after effects of Covid-19. Walker could be the guy to step up and lift the Celtics in a spot they need a win. Tatum isn’t a bad tournament play on DraftKings.
This is the perfect type of spot we can take advantage of for betting. Keep an eye on the news and once Brown’s status is determined, we can react accordingly. If Brown is out, this would put the Hawks in a good spot already coming off a win over the Celtics on Wednesday. It’s sometimes tough to repeat that type of thing, but this is Boston without one of its best players. This would also make some Hawks props appealing since Brown is a plus-defender.
