With the 2021 Spring FCS season kicking off Friday night, let’s take a look at the odds for the national championship winner in what will be an unusual season. DraftKings Sportsbook released the odds Thursday afternoon.
Winner of eight of the last nine national titles, North Dakota State actually has shorter odds than they did before winning the 2019 championship, where they were +250 and behind the +200 of James Madison. The loss of Trey Lance to the NFL Draft is a factor here, as the Bison will look to run it back with Iowa State transfer Zeb Noland under center.
The Weber State Wildcats are next at +300, and the Big Sky Conference should be theirs with perennial powers Montana, Montana State, and Sacramento State choosing not to compete this season. WSU will start and end the season with Idaho State, playing Cal Poly, UC Davis, Northern Arizona, and Southern Utah in the middle.
Northern Iowa is No. 3 in both the rankings and on the odds board, checking in at +450. The Panthers head coach Mark Farley enters his 20th season as the winningest head coach in Missouri Valley Football Conference history at 159 wins, with NIU coming off their first quarterfinal appearance since 2015.
