Deion Sanders’ Jackson State wins in coaching debut 53-0 over NAIA school

The Tigers of Jackson State gave their first Gatorade bath to their Hall of Fame head coach.

Deion “Prime Time” Sanders’ head coaching debut was a success, as his FCS-member Jackson State Tigers defeated Edward Waters Tigers of the NAIA 53-0 at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium in Jackson, Mississippi on Sunday.

No live stats were available at the end of the game, but Jackson State led 31-0 at halftime with 265 yards of offense, while holding EWU to just 42 yards of offense and just two first downs. Jackson State quarterback Jalon Jones was 16-18 for 151 yards and two touchdowns in the first half.

The best moment of the game might have been after the final whistle, when an assistant coach for Edward Waters tried to get a selfie with Sanders during the postgame handshakes.

Edward Waters is a private school affiliated with the African Methodist Episcopal Church in Jacksonville, Florida, and has just over 1,000 students. Jackson State’s next game is against the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils on Saturday, February 27th, and will be broadcast on ESPN3.

In a random site note, Troy Aikman made an appearance in support of his former teammate.
